Mexico SHG Zongolica Coffee - WPZ
Mexico SHG Zongolica coffee is a very special coffee. It is grown by 20 female farmers known as WPZ or 'Woman Power Zongolica!' Most of the WPZ collective identify as part of the Nahuas indigenous group from the Zongolica region of Veracruz, Mexico. The region is deeply influenced by the rich, ancestral heritage of its people.
The twenty farmers who contribute to this coffee each adhere to the same practices on their individual farms.
Coffee farms in Zongolica are agro-ecosystems, which means the farms take into account the impact of the farming well beyond the farm and work to balance the energy and nutrients to preserve the regions biodiversity.
The women who make up the WPZ are also part of NKG BLOOM, an initiative of the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) to ensure the long-term viability of green coffee supplies and provide smallholder farmers with the opportunities and resources they need to run their farms at full potential and to take steps to move out of poverty.

What is SHG coffee? SHG coffee" stands for "Strictly High Grown" coffee. It's a designation used in the coffee industry to indicate that the coffee beans were grown at high altitudes, typically above 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) above sea level. Coffee beans grown at higher altitudes tend to have distinct qualities and characteristics compared to beans grown at lower elevations.
SHG coffee is generally considered to be of higher quality due to the slower growth and maturation of the coffee cherries at higher altitudes. The cooler temperatures, reduced oxygen levels, and increased sunlight exposure at high elevations can result in beans with greater density, more nuanced flavours, and often higher acidity. These factors can contribute to a more desirable and flavourful cup of coffee.
Sustainability: All of our coffee beans are traceable directly to the farm and the farmer. Our coffees are either Fair Trade Organic (FTO) or Rain Forest Alliance certified, or grown as a collective/cooperative to assure a fair wage and good environmental practice. Our coffee bags are compostable.
